How IDV Tracks International Dividend Payers
The iShares International Select Dividend ETF (IDV) seeks to track the investment results of the Dow Jones EPAC Select Dividend Index, which is provided by S&P Dow Jones Indices LLC. The index measures the performance of high dividend-paying companies in the EPAC (Europe, Pacific, Asia and Canada) region, which covers developed markets excluding the U.S. The index may include large-, mid- and small-capitalization companies.1
Constituents are selected according to indicated annual dividend (IAD) yield, subject to screening criteria and weighting constraints. IAD yield is a stock's IAD (excluding any special dividends) divided by its price.1
BlackRock Fund Advisors (BFA) manages IDV with representative sampling: it invests in a sample of securities intended to collectively give the fund an investment profile similar to the index. IDV may or may not hold every index component. Under normal circumstances, IDV will not invest less than 80% of its net assets, plus any borrowings for investment purposes, in components of its index.1
IDV pays distributions quarterly, according to its fact sheet. BlackRock's schedule groups IDV with its quarterly international equity funds, which intend to go ex-dividend in March, June, September and December, in each case 3 business days preceding the third Friday of the month. BlackRock intends to follow that cadence but may change distribution dates or omit dividends as necessary.2,3
The Screens and Weight Caps Behind IDV's Index
IDV's index draws from the S&P EPAC BMI and S&P Canada BMI indexes, excluding REITs. A new constituent must have paid dividends in each of the previous three years. Its current year trailing 12-month dividend-per-share ratio must be at or above its three-year average, and its five-year average dividend coverage ratio must be at least two-thirds of the five-year average for its S&P BMI country index or above 118%, whichever is greater.1
New constituents also need non-negative trailing 12-month earnings per share, a float-adjusted market capitalization of at least $1 billion and a three-month average daily trading value of at least $3 million. Current constituents need a float-adjusted market capitalization of at least $750 million and stay eligible regardless of dividend growth, coverage ratio, earnings per share or trading value.1
Eligible securities are ranked by IAD yield: all existing constituents ranked in the top 200 go in first, then non-constituents in rank order until the index reaches its target count. At the annual reconstitution, the index applies a 20% cap to each IAD yield and multiplies it by the square root of float market capitalization to set weights. Each security is capped at the lower of 10% or five times its float market capitalization weight, and each Global Industry Classification Standard sector and country of domicile at 30% in aggregate.1
IDV's Annual Payment Record Since 2008
Dividend Stacker's record of past IDV payments shows 4 distributions in every completed calendar year from 2008 through 2025, with amounts adjusted for any share splits or reverse splits. The annual total was $2.82 per share in 2008 and fell 62.4% to $1.06 in 2009, the largest decline in the record. It then rose 24.3% in 2010 and 23.3% in 2011.4
The 2014 total of $2.03 was followed by a 28.3% decline to $1.46 in 2015. More recently, the total fell 8.5% in 2023 and 3.0% in 2024, to $1.77, then rose 10.2% to $1.95 in 2025. In 2025 the smallest of IDV's four payments was $0.1881 per share and the largest was $0.7871.4
Principal Risks of IDV's Foreign Dividend Strategy
IDV's investment in developed country issuers subjects it to legal, regulatory, political, currency, security, economic and other risks associated with those countries, which have generally experienced slower economic growth than some less developed countries. Non-U.S. securities carry risks that include greater market volatility and less market liquidity. When foreign markets where IDV's holdings trade are closed while its shares trade, there are likely to be deviations between those assets' current prices and their last quoted prices.1
The prospectus says IDV is specifically exposed to European economic risk, and its U.K. risk notes that certain trading matters between the U.K. and the EU remain unresolved following Brexit. The index may include mid- and small-cap companies, whose securities the prospectus says may be more volatile and less liquid than those of large-cap companies.1
Because IDV's NAV is determined in U.S. dollars, it could decline if the currency of a non-U.S. market where the fund invests depreciates against the dollar. The fund may also incur costs converting between dollars and foreign currencies.1
Where its index is concentrated in an industry or group of industries, IDV will be too, holding 25% or more of its total assets there, and to that extent it may be susceptible to an increased risk of loss. The prospectus also lists financial companies risk for IDV: financial services companies face extensive governmental regulation and may be significantly affected by interest rates, among other things.1
Issuers of stocks IDV holds may reduce or eliminate dividends, which may adversely affect the fund. Tracking error, the divergence of the fund's performance from the index, may occur due to factors including differences between the securities IDV holds and those the index includes.1

How IDV Distributions May Be Taxed
The summary prospectus says IDV intends to make distributions that may be taxable as ordinary income or capital gains, unless the shares are held through a tax-deferred arrangement such as a 401(k) plan or an IRA, where distributions generally will be taxed when withdrawn. It also notes that the fund invests in non-U.S. securities, which may in some cases not produce qualifying dividend income.1
